Miami, Fl - Smokers' Trial

One Hundred Forty-five Billion dollars!  In numbers: $145,000,000,000!  $145 Billion! 300,00 to 700,000 idiots will get some big money!  A little over $200,000 each  How can I play that game!  That's better than some playing some lotteries.  Damn.

Smokers claim:  We were mislead by the Big Tobacco regarding health risks.

Big Tobacco:  We are trying to run a business.

Rights?

What rights do smokers have?  They choose to smoke.  If they choose to smoke, then they must suffer the consequences!  You run the risk of some disease. Health risks.  Go figure.  Anyone with a brain knows smoking is a health risk.  Living in a smoggy city is a health risk.  Mountain climbing is a health risk.  Whoever out there thinks that sucking in smoke from a burning leaf is good for your lungs best have their head examined!  If you smoke, you have the right to become ill.  If you
choose not to smoke, you have the right be healthy.  Pretty simple, eh?

Companies are not responsible for or to ignorant people.  Any well informed person knows that smoking is bad for them and poses a health risk.  Actually you don't need to be well informed.  You just need to be informed. Talk with a doctor.  They seem to think that smoking is not very healthy, but they also know it is a matter of choice.

I don't smoke.  Never have and never will.  That is how you get back at these companies: Don't Buy Their Products!

Misleading?

Did tobacco companies intend to mislead smokers, i.e. consumers?  Of course they did!  Should it cost them?  Difficult answer. The question should be "can you put a price on it?  $145 Billion?  Probably not realistic.  They want customers.  Anyone who advertises some product may attempt to mislead consumers.  Sue the car dealer down the street.  How
about that frozen food supplier?  It has taken many years for the car dealer to shed their image of "swindling", and they still get bad raps.  Look at the picture on a frozen dinner.  Doesn't look like what is inside, does it?  That's misleading.  A television commercial shows a big sandwich or burger; you buy one and it is the size of your fist.  You were mislead and they got you in to buy their merchandise.  Misleading, misdirection.  It is the name of the game.  These examples may seem simplistic, but it is true.  You as a consumer are mislead everyday.  Learn to live with it or deal with it.  Your choice.

700,000 Cases

More sick idiots.  I reiterate:  You smoke, you get sick.  Sometimes you die. That is your CHOICE.  Quit your whining and get on with your life (or what's left of it)!

Final Ruling

I hope a ruling is made soon just to get it over with.  Unfortunately it will carry on in Appeals Court, then on to another court, then ....  Who pays for that?  Everyone.  I guess as long as there are idiots, we will never hear the end of this.  How sad.
